REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

Registration for the 2011-12 season will be available online on October, 1, 2011.   Click on the “Register Online” link to access our online application system and sign up your children.   If you were a Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage (NSAA) member last year or your kids skied with Jr. Nordic, your information will be in the system.  Otherwise, you will need to create a new account and sign up your kids.  Once you have an account, you can use the system to sign up for NSAA membership, races and other events like Ski 4 Kids and Ski for Women.

Once you have selected the program you want, you have the option of paying with a credit card or mailing in a check.  NSAA members save on Junior Nordic fees.    Our system is run by “Memberclicks” – and is set up so that the fees come directly to NSAA.  Your child will be registered and accepted when we have received payment, either online or by mail.  Groups are filled on a first come basis and all of the groups have been filling up second session.

The Anchorage Junior Nordic League (AJNL) provides an opportunity for children to enjoy the Anchorage winter while learning the sport of cross country skiing. AJNL is open to skiers ages 6 through 14. All abilities are welcome to join and learn a sport they can pursue for a lifetime. The emphasis is on having fun and learning proper technique rather than competition.  AJNL is affiliated with the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage, and is governed by a committee of NSAA that is made up of parent volunteers.  It is run by a director who oversees the coaching staff. Parents assist in the operation of the league and all parents are encouraged to participate.

DATES FOR 2011-2012 SEASON:

First Session: November 14, 2011 – January 8, 2012

Registration deadline for first session is November 7, 2011. Online application and payment must be received by 11/7/11 or a late fee of $20 will be charged for accepted applications. See "Fees" below.

Second Session: January 17, 2012 – March 10, 2012

Registration deadline for second session is January 9, 2012. Registration for second session is available on Oct. 1, 2011. Online registration and payment must be received by 1/9/12 or a late fee of $20 will be charged for accepted applications. Many groups fill up for second session before the registration deadline: registration acceptance is on a first-come, first-in basis. Registration after January 9 may not be accepted, and will be subject to a $20 late fee. See "Fees" below.

PARENT MEETINGS:

Informational meetings for all parents will be held the first night of the session at each of the venues where the kids are skiing. The meetings will start at 6:30. The kids will go skiing (or hiking) with the coaches. If there is snow, the kids should come prepared to ski. If there is not snow, we still have practice and the kids will have fun hiking in the woods and playing games. Dryland training is a great way to get in shape for when the snow flies.

FEES:

One session of skiing for NSAA member: $150

One session of skiing for Non-NSAA member: $175 (Click to become a member)

Sign up for both sessions before November 7, 2011 and receive a discount:  $290 for NSAA members or $340 for non-NSAA members.

Ski rental: $25 per 8-week session

Late sign up fee (after 11/9/11 for first session or after 1/9/12 for second session): $20

Jr Nordic replacement hats: $25 (First-time skiers receive a hat when they pick up equipment.)

Parents who are unable to volunteer to help: we ask for a donation of $25 from parents who are unable to volunteer. Junior Nordic is a parent-run organization and we ask that any parents who can volunteer do so. This can be volunteering to ski along with a group of skiers to help the coach or can be one-time tasks such as registration, special events, end-of-season equipment cleanup and maintenance. Check with the site director where your child skis to see how you can help. We ask those unable to volunteer to donate $25.

NSAA MEMBERSHIP:

Our skiers are not required to be members of NSAA, but NSAA members receive discounts on Junior Nordic fees. We encourage all Junior Nordic families to join and support NSAA because NSAA maintains and grooms the ski trails of Hillside and Kincaid Parks. If you and your children are skiing on the trails maintained by NSAA, we urge you to support trail maintenance by getting trail pins from NSAA. Junior Nordic is a heavy user of the trails and is grateful to NSAA for doing such a superb job summer and winter maintaining and grooming them. You can join NSAA as a family or make your child an NSAA member at the same time that you sign up for Junior Nordic. Visit the NSAA website at www.anchoragenordicski.com. www.anchoragenordicski.com

EQUIPMENT CHECK-OUT:
All registered skiers need to pick up a Junior Nordic jacket, hat and skis, if they choose to rent skis. Equipment check-out happens the week BEFORE skiing starts, both sessions.

Equipment check out for Session One will take place:

  • Thursday, November 10, 2011, 6:30- 8:00 pm, Kincaid Chalet or
  • Saturday, November 12, 10:30 –11:30 am, Kincaid Chalet

Equipment check out for Session Two will take place:

  • Thursday, January 12, 2012, 6:30- 8:00 p.m., Kincaid Chalet or
  • Saturday, January 14, 10:30 –11:30 a.m., Kincaid Chalet

All registered skiers need to pick up a Junior Nordic jacket, hat and skis, if they choose to rent skis. You must come to Kincaid Chalet on these dates to get jackets and skis. We do NOT rent out boots and poles. You must provide boots and poles for your skier. If you are renting Jr. Nordic skis, you'll need NNN ski boots. For more information on equipment, click on the Parent Handbook link at the top of the page.

EQUIPMENT DEPOSIT

When you check out jackets and skis, we ask for an equipment deposit of $50 for each jacket and $125 for each pair of skis. The deposit is either a check or a credit card number and signature. We will keep the deposits until the equipment is returned to us in January (if you are skiing for just the first session) or March (if you are skiing second session.). PLEASE BRING YOUR CHECKBOOK OR CREDIT CARD WHEN YOU COME TO PICK UP JACKETS AND SKIS. This is not an additional charge for borrowing jackets and skis – we do not cash the check or charge your credit card unless we don't get our equipment returned - but it does help us to get our equipment back at the end of the season.
